Lake Erie Electric was founded in 1952 by Frank J. Nichols and originally based in Lorain, Ohio. John S. Corogin joined him shortly thereafter and together they formed the ownership and management team. In 1958, William M. Leblang was hired to open and manage an office in Cleveland, Ohio and eventually became the third Partner of the Company. From inception, Lake Erie Electric achieved steady growth by pursuing commercial and industrial projects throughout Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties with the first automotive industry project completed in 1954 for Ford Motor Company, and the first steel industry project completed in 1961 for Republic Steel Corporation. Lake Erie Electric continued to expand its presence in Northeast Ohio throughout the 1960's. The office in Lorain continued to serve as the Company’s headquarters pursuing all types and sizes of electrical projects. With a larger industrial base available, the Cleveland Office began to focus on developing key relationships with the automotive and steel industry customers. During the early 1970's, the Company expanded geographically throughout the Midwest at the request of Ford Motor Company, its largest customer at the time. An office in Detroit, Michigan was opened in 1985 to participate vigorously in the automotive industry. The success of this office established the Company as a local electrical contractor in Southeastern Michigan.
As considerable change continued to take place within the electrical industry, the Company made two key decisions that proved to be highly beneficial. In 1987, a Commercial Division was formed to expand its Cleveland presence in the large commercial market place, followed in 1988 by the consolidation of the Lorain and Cleveland offices into its present headquarters in Westlake, Ohio. In 1990, the Company continued its geographic expansion and opened an office in Dayton to serve Southwestern Ohio. A strategy to strengthen the Company's presence in Northern Ohio resulted in the acquisitions of Charnan Electric of Mansfield in 1998, Firelands Electric of Sandusky in 1999, Carpenter Electric of Toledo in 2001, and Hirsch Electric Company in 2004, In 2005, to strengthen the presence in the Akron market, Loomis Electric was acquired. Lake Erie Electric continues to focus on being a strong regional construction firm, capable of bidding and executing most any type and size electrical project throughout the Midwest United States. Today's ownership and management continue to build upon this regional market, core industries, and the strong foundations and principals laid down by the Company's founders over fifty years ago. |
